Mood Board

In this Mood Board that I created, I show the Fear of Heights, also known as acrophobia. One technique I want to use in this project is a wide lens, as I believe that it will further emphasize the vast height being shown. I want to create the unnerving feeling of being small compared to all that is below you. I may also want to take a picture of someone pretending to be falling from the sky, such as the photo on the bottom left of my mood board.

~Principles of Design~

Principles of Design

1. What strengths and weaknesses do you see in your own work?

In my photos, I notice that I sometimes over edit them, making them over-saturated or over-exposed. However, I believe that I also have a good eye with how I take my photos. I think that my framing and composition help make up for my weaknesses.

2. How might you improve or refine your approach in future photography projects?

In future photography projects, I am to be more consistent with my work. I want to focus more on my editing so that I don’t over edit my pictures. However, I also want to improve my photography skills, as I believe that I can always get better with using the camera too.

3. Pick one of your photos, what emotions or messages did you intend to convey through this photograph?

In my emphasis: color photo, I intend to convey a serene feeling for the viewer. I believe the pink pops out just enough that it doesn’t take too much away from the background, but still attracts the viewer’s attention. I believe that this photo gives the viewer a feeling of peace and nostalgia.

4. Are there specific principles of design you would like to explore further in your photography?

In the future, I would like to explore further with both the unity/harmony and emphasis principles of design. I believe that if I further explore these principles, I can take my photos and make them even better. I find photos with these principles more appealing to me than any other photo.

5. What concepts or techniques do you want to experiment with in your next project?

In the future, I would like to experiment more with different compositions and framing, as I usually use the same composition with most of my photos. I want to try to experiment with countless different techniques, as I believe that my photography skills can always get better. I would like to take techniques that I like in other photos and apply them to my own.

Put Yourself in History

Write and post to your blog a 5 sentence explanation about your historic photo and your personal connection with this image.

The image I decided to put myself into was the picture of Buzz Aldrin. The reason for this is because him and the other astronauts did what was thought to be impossible, which inspired me. This inspired me and helped me realize that anything is possible. I also thought that the idea of me being an astronaut was interesting. Therefore, I chose Buzz Aldrin

What is my favorite portrait photo that I took?

My favorite portrait photo that I took was the photo containing loop lighting. The reason for this is because they facial expression and the contrast really puts it together, which I enjoy.

Which of these lighting techniques do I think I can apply for future picture taking?
I think that I can use all of these lighting techniques in future picture taking, however, the lighting technique I like the most is probably split lighting. The split lighting technique is very enjoyable for me as it gives off a mysterious vibe, which is cool.

Cretu

This is a cretu of both Vlad the Impaler and Playboi Carti. The reason I chose these two people is because they both have a vampire persona given to them. Vlad the Impaler is known for the blood that he shed when he impaled his victims, which is estimated to be more than 80,000 people, and because of the origin Dracula has in his fathers name, Dracul. Meanwhile, Carti compares himself to a vampire which can be seen in the songs in his album, WLR. It can also be seen in the way he performs at his concerts as well. I hope that this cretu can communicate the correlation between the two, as it expresses both of their relationships with vampires.

Abstract Fall-tography

Shadow

What is the distinct mood of the photograph? Explain. In this photo, I wanted to create a peaceful yet passionate vibe in this photograph. With this being said, I took the two colors that express these things and combined them, creating purple. This gives it a soothing, mysterious mood.
What does the photo make you think about? Explain. This photo makes me think about mystery or wisdom. The reflection from the clear bowl, the pattern of its shadow and the purple tint really brings the entire photo together, giving me the thought of mystery, wisdom and even fantasy.
What in the photo jumps out at you? Explain. The bowl and its shadow really jumps out at me. I think that the pattern of the shadow is very unique, and the shine from the glass bowl really gives you something to focus on. These two things complement each other very well, as the shining glass contrasts with the dark shadow.
How does the photo make you feel? Explain. This photo makes me feel at peace and calm. The dark colors of the photo brings ease to my mind as it is very pleasing to look at. It has given me a calming yet passionate feeling due to the purple tinted light shining onto the glass bowl, while still having a dark surrounding.
What advice would you give to next year’s students for shooting abstract photography? Explain.
The advice that I would give to next year’s students for shooting abstract photography is don’t be scared to try out whatever comes to your mind. If you have an idea, use it and transform it into something bigger with the power of photoshop. Let your peers around you inspire you and bring out the most of your creativity.
